Xián · Influence
Upper trigram: ☱ Lake · lower trigram: ☶ Mountain
The mutual attraction of young lovers; influence through the empty heart that knows how to receive.
The ancient character depicts a sacrificial axe cutting a piece of meat to seal an alliance, joined to a mouth pronouncing ritual words of great attractive charge. "Xian" means mutual influence, the spontaneous, reciprocal attraction established between two different entities without any coercive force being exerted.
Magnetic attraction and relational opening
This hexagram corresponds to the phase of the amorous encounter, of the intellectual thunderbolt or of spontaneous adhesion to a new idea. Hearts open, barriers fade under the effect of a natural sympathy. It is an excellent configuration for opening a dialogue, winning over a partner or creating a dynamic of cooperation based on feeling and empathy.
Keep the intention pure and remain attentive
The strategy for success requires preserving the spontaneity and the gratuity of this attraction. The text counsels welcoming the other with a "heart empty of prejudice", so that the influence can circulate freely. Do not seek to manipulate or rationalise this impulse; let the coupling occur naturally, for it is from this emotional justness that the fecundity of the union will be born.
Energetically, the figure places the trigram of the Mountain (Gen, inner cohesion, the young man) below, beneath the trigram of Mist/Marsh (Dui, joyful communication, the young woman) above. The Mountain steadies itself beneath the Marsh, the stillness of the one answering the fluidity of the other in perfect complementarity. The challenge is not to let superficial excitement disturb this fine harmony.
