The Yi Jing insists that this initial vigour, exceptional though it is, is not enough to guarantee success. The counsel is to show great perseverance. Indeed, by seeking to act with immoderate intensity, one risks tension and exhaustion. True creativity does not consist in acting in endless haste, but in knowing how to sustain this impulse steadily, without being overwhelmed by one's own ardour. This dynamic energy must therefore be joined to a serene vigilance, so that the idea can take lasting material form.
